It is fair to say that in which the moment is grasped out of prosperity – and undoubtedly end up on the fireplace in the coming years – it is important to consider what you are wearing. Your wedding day is of course such an opportunity. Another, for those who are lucky and are successful enough to achieve it, is the day on which they are invested in Buckingham Palace.
For the fashion designer Anya Hindmarcharch-Sie from the Googly-Eugy Handbagen-War on Tuesday, when she was appointed Lace Command of the Order of the British Empire (DBE) in Buckingham Palace. After almost three decades of her beloved brand accessories, it is not to deny that she has served our country enthusiastically on the fashion front.
For the significant opportunity, lady Anya did not choose a statement dress, as has become the starting point, but for an overall fancier and suddenly more modern option and rock suit. “I decided to wear Emilia Wickstead, a dear friend who made me a tailor -made skirt and a jacket in the navy that I will love forever as a reminder of this very special day. I was wearing the silver crispy package [bag]. ““ Hindmarch’s marine suit consisted of a belt jacket with an A-line maxik skirt that was equipped with low heels and a pillbox hat. Similar, Vogue’s Anna Wintour also chose a gray rock suit by Alexander McQueen to collect her companion of King Charles’ honorary prize last week. It is a look that feels both timeless and at the moment, and that will certainly not go out – ideal for these mantle piece memories.
It is now difficult to believe, but when the classic rocksuit’s silhouette was first designed by Christian Dior in 1947 (and described his “new look”), it was considered somewhat scandalous, mainly for the sheer amount of fabric that it after the Rationing used the Second World War. In the years in between, however, it is a rich source of inspiration for contemporary designers – such as Erdem, Emilia Wickstead and Jenny Packham – with many those who are preferred by the royal family and the high society.
“Rock suits get a bad representative – dowdy, old -fashioned, RivalEsque, ”says stylist Sarah Kate Byrne. “And yet a beautifully tailor -made rock suit like Anya is timeless, elegant and practical. Most of my customers come to me to dress for a certain announcement, and a dress seems to be easier for them – and for me because there is less to think. But a rock suit is a fantastic choice because it is in a way two for the price of one – a tailor -made jacket that can be combined with jeans or a fabulous skirt to combine with boots and a rope on the occasion. The pulled rock suit also serves elegance and practicality, as is often removed with the need for a coat. Damenhoods demands hats and a rock suit so well for this typical dior look. “
A serial rock suit divider is the jewelry designer and socialite Sabine Getty. In 2018, she wore a light pink shape of Emilia Wickstead for the wedding of Princess Eugenie and Jack Brooksbank, while in 2019 she decided to use a powder blue design by Dior for the wedding of Jean-Christophe Napoléon and Countess Olympia by and to Arco. The latter was inspired by a glance that was previously carried by the late Diana, Princess of Wales.
“I can never wear a rock suit in my everyday life, it can be invented and definitely felt very formally,” she says. “But the truth is, it is the simplest outfit that you can wear. Finished in less than five minutes. The ensemble fits perfectly and you look very finished and elegant with minimal effort. You can then have fun with colors because the structure can be replicated endlessly as soon as you find the right fit. I am everything for the return of the rock suit to the zeitgeist! “
Of course, the royal family have been a follower for the charm of the rock suit for a long time, with the princess of Wales and Duchess of Edinburgh, especially the selection of cuts and colors that make them look modern. A typical example was this fabulous erdem design, which Kate wore for the Commonwealth Service in 2023: a dark blue Jacquard print with a fold peplum and an exhibited skirt.
And it’s not just high society that turns to the rock suit when the occasion requires it. Kendall Jenner exchanged her off-duty model uniform from jeans and a T-shirt for an Alberta Ferretti rock suit in Paris in January. Hailey Bieber rocked vintage Thierry Mugler’s needle strip during a visit to New York a few weeks later. And the actresses Demi Moore and Sarah Jessica Parker wore updates during the last press tours about Erdem’s look and Vivienne Westwood. There were versions on the runway in Stella McCartney, Prada and Bottega Veneta for AW25 and proves that the working girl -look stays here for occasion and beyond.
While Erdem has some wonderful designer options, the High Street also has some great settings, including Cefinn’s needle strip version, perfect for summer events, and Alignde’s collarless Bouclé set, which is not out of place in the office or at a wedding. In terms of the complete look, Byrne recommends sticking to minimal accessories and modern shoes. “Shy in front of statement or scarves with a rock suit because it could look more cheeky than classically chic,” she says. “And opt for a sales chair or a pointed flat to keep the look modern.”
